MAGNOLIA MODERN
This house design completely transforms a small, war-era house into a fresh, contemporary home with three additional bedrooms and two baths. All bedrooms shift to the upper level of the house allowing the living spaces to be expanded at the street level. The house’s entire exterior is replaced with slatted rain-screen walls, new windows and a butterfly roof with a custom water sculpture/ downspout and underground cistern to store rainwater. A new entry and covered porch is added to create a more gracious entry and the front door is turned to the south to create a more private exposure through the garden. Clerestory windows provide sky-views to the south and bathe the new master suite in sunlight while preserving privacy in this residential neighborhood. The overall design makes green choices throughout using a rich material palate and simple modern detailing.
