COUGAR MOUNTAIN HOUSE


A loop driveway through a shady forest leads to a massive, stone-like wall that slices through the site, supports a carport roof and marks the entry. From the interior of the house the wall becomes a foil, separating the public realm of the house from the private. Each space reveals distinct connections to place with stunning views of Lake Sammamish in the foreground, the Olympic Mountains to the west, Mount Baker to the north and Mount Si and Tiger Mountain to the east. Wood, stucco and stone finishes complement the natural beauty of the site. The house is designed with both passive and active solar panel systems for heating the house and meeting hot water demands. The house design is a contemporary and forward thinking northwest expression and was the first Four-Star Built-Green single family house permitted in King County.
